The Robotics: Design and Control/Learning Team focuses on designing and developing sophisticated robotic platforms that serve as the physical foundation for our AI-driven systems. We work on creating versatile, robust, and intelligent robots capable of operating in diverse environments.
Our research encompasses several key areas including advanced motion control, trajectory planning, sensor integration, and real-time system optimization. We develop both hardware and software solutions that enable robots to interact seamlessly with their environment while maintaining precision and reliability.

Professor Ho Anh Van received his Ph.D. degree in robotics from Ritsumeikan University, Japan, in 2012. He completed the JSPS Postdoctoral Fellowship in 2013, before joining Mitsubishi Electric Corp. as a Research Scientist. From 2015 to 2017, he was an Assistant Professor with Ryukoku University. In 2017, he joined the Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (JAIST) to establish a laboratory on soft robotics.
His research interests include soft robotics, soft haptic interaction, tactile sensing, grasping and manipulation, and bioinspired robots. He is a recipient of the prestigious JSPS Research Fellowship, 2019 IEEE Nagoya Chapter Young Researcher Award, and Best Paper Finalists at RSS 2023, IEEE SII (2024, 2016), and IEEE RoboSoft (2020). He serves as Associate Editor for IEEE T-RO, RA-L, and Advanced Robotics, and was General Chair of SII 2024.
